Taka, a puppy, almost lost his life in a fire. The eight-year-old’s house caught fire last week while he was on the porch. Despite his best efforts, his family could not arrive on time and he had to leave the residence.
A Miracle Happened
Taka escaped from the porch on his own and ran down the street. A kind neighbor eventually discovered the puppy and rushed to Care More Animal һoѕріtаɩ in Martinez, Georgia.
“He had burns around his eyes, mouth, ears and belly,” explained Emily Martin, a veterinarian at Care More Animal һoѕріtаɩ. “We didn’t know how serious her injuries were at first because we were worried she would have inhalation burns.”
Taka’s eyes were also severely damaged… Unfortunately, he ended up going blind.
Taka was brought to the University of Georgia clinic after the veterinary team noticed he was having trouble breathing. There he could be connected to a respirator. Taka was able to return to Care More Animal һoѕріtаɩ after a few days, and they are doing everything they can to help him.
Martin was deeply moved.
“I try to treat my patients the same way, but his case has been a little more heartbreaking,” Martin explained. “When he arrived, he was screaming in pain.”
Martin contacted Taka’s family shortly after he arrived at the veterinarian, and Taka was eventually released into Martin’s care due to his health condition. Martin has set out to be more than just Taka’s veterinarian: she has become his mother.
Martin would take Taka home at night because the һoѕріtаɩ was not open 24 hours a day. As a result, he didn’t have to sleep alone. The next day, Martin snuggled up in Taka’s cage at the veterinary hospital and they slept together.
One of Martin’s coworkers captured this tender moment.
Taka’s kindness, despite everything he’s going through, is one of the most surprising things to Martin. “When animals are in pain, they often bite. He didn’t even try to bite once.”
While it’s too early to say how his burns will affect Taka in the long term, Martin and the other vets are optimistic about his chances, especially since he’s eating and going to the bathroom on his own.
“He’s definitely in a lot of pain, but we hope he’s okay,” Martin explained.
Taka’s personality begins to shine.
“He likes belly rubs and he loves food, so he’s a glutton,” Martin explained. “He also likes to hug.”
Martin has become very fond of Taka and has considered adopting him permanently. However, the mother already has five other dogs and a seven-month-old baby. Therefore, he recognizes that her home may not be the best environment for Taka, who will require a lot of special attention.
Martin is determined to find him the best home possible, with someone who sees him as a unique dog. “He went through something so traumatic and painful, and yet he doesn’t give up,” Martin explained. “It is so strong”.
