Tom Cruise sci-fi epic available on DVD and Blu-ray from October 13
Emily Blunt has revealed her martial arts training techniques in an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip from the DVD release of Edge Of Tomorrow.
The Tom Cruise sci-fi epic directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) is available on DVD and Blu-ray October 13.
Blunt spent three months in training before filming began. “I was encouraged to take up gymnastics, Krav Maga, weight training and sprint training,” she told Entertainment Weekly. The star of The Five Year Engagement worked out in a weight vest to get ready for the demands of wearing her character Vrataski’s 85lb exoskeleton – a futuristic mechanised combat suit.
Blunt added: “I prepared as much as I could, and then the first day when I showed up and put the suit on, I just thought, ‘Oh God I’m going to start crying’. And then you get used to it, and it becomes like second nature.”
In the clip Blunt explains that Vrataski’s fight style is “very aerial based and martial arts based” and she “fights with an enormous helicopter blade that she salvaged from a crash”.
Vrataski is tasked with training Cruise’s Lt Col Bill Cage to help him fight invading aliens. Like Vrataski, Cage is caught in a time-loop which sees him forced to relive the same day over and over. Pitched into battle against the aliens Cage dies again and again, but each time learning more about how to defeat his prey.
