Bachelor parties are a fun way to celebrate the end of being single and the beginning of married life. Some people go wild in Las Vegas, others enjoy a quiet celebration with just a few friends – there are a multitude of ways to have that last ‘hurrah.’ Mitch White planned to have a relaxing canoe trip with his closest friends. The groom-to-be had no idea that this trip would turn into a rescue mission for an elderly dog ​​stuck in the mud. That’s one bachelor party he’s sure not to forget.

It’s not every day that a crazy bachelor party turns into a dog rescue mission.

One beautiful day, Mitch, a young man about to get married, gathered his closest friends and set off on a canoe trip to celebrate his upcoming wedding. This bachelor party was supposed to be about nature and camaraderie. And is there a better way to bond than by rescuing a pup together?

Just after the group had eaten lunch and continued their journey, Mitch’s nephew, Gaylen Fraenkel, heard a sad barking. They hadn’t encountered anyone, so it was highly unlikely that it was a camper’s dog. The young man decided to turn the canoe around to make sure everything was okay. And thank goodness he did: a desperate dog was stuck in thick mud, using his last bit of strength to call for help.

On closer inspection, they saw that the poor thing was an elderly St. Bernard. He was very thin and exhausted, with a nasty tick attached to his eye. The rest of the group turned their canoes around and jumped in to help. The mud was so deep and thick that they all sank up to their knees. But they were tireless in their attempt to rescue the dog, using their paddles as shovels to dig him out.

To keep the dog comfortable, they offered him water, of which he drank half a gallon before stopping. The kind guys shared their lunch with him, giving him some meat and summer sausage. This quick snack was meant to give him a boost of energy to get up. The bachelors named him Wilson and called his new name in an attempt to get him up, but he was too tired, even after the delicious summer sausage.

The group didn’t want to get too close to Wilson since they didn’t see any collars and weren’t sure if he was friendly. That’s good practice when dealing with a dog you don’t know.

Alex, one of Mitch’s friends, decided it was time to get help and called 911. He explained the situation and the Carver Fire Department was dispatched, who arrived to Wilson’s aid within 20 minutes. They brought a harness that they were able to place under his chest and the men from the fire department, along with two of Mitch’s friends, pulled Wilson out of his muddy prison. Hooray!

Thanks to the kindness of the singles and the help of the local fire department, the adorable little dog was rescued.

After a successful rescue mission, Wilson was about to get another pleasant surprise. Five minutes after being pulled out of the mud, his owner appeared. He was shocked to see his four-legged friend all covered in mud. “Ed! What are you doing down there in the mud?!” he exclaimed upon seeing his dog. This is how Mitch and his friends discovered that they had been calling Ed by the wrong name. Although to me he looks like a Wilson.

A few days ago, Mitch got a nice surprise when a friend of the owners got in touch with him. He wanted to let Ed’s rescuers know that he was doing much better, recovering well and was already moving around on his own. I bet his owners won’t let him out of their sight now.

Adorable Ed was clearly born under a lucky star. Mitch’s group found him just in time to get him to safety. But what would have happened if they hadn’t found him?

Owners want the best for their dogs: the best treats, lots of toys, and freedom to roam and explore. Unfortunately, letting your dog off-leash can be very dangerous, as they can get lost like poor Ed here. They could decide to eat something dangerous resulting in a pile of medical bills and a long, painful recovery. Keep an eye on your pet to prevent injury or any ill-intentioned person trying to steal your beloved furry friend.

Walks with their human are the highlight of any dog’s day and they look forward to them. It’s that time of day when they have your unconditional attention and love, so try to make the most of it. Avoid using your phone or listening to music; instead, try talking to your dog and watch their face light up when you say, “hey buddy!” The more fun activities you do, the stronger the bond you create with your dog will be. Look into those eyes and remember that you mean everything to them, so make the most of the little time you have together.
