When this German shepherd became trapped on a rock in the middle of a river with water rapidly rushing by, first responders quickly responded to save the dog.
A German shepherd somehow got loose and managed to end up in the middle of a raging river, according to the Cleveland Metroparks Police Department. They quickly responded to the call but realized they would need help.
The dog was standing on a rock in the river by Berea Falls Scenic Overlook. They were uncertain how the dog made it to the rock but with strong currents, there was no way the dog would be able to make it out alone.
So, they called the Cleveland Metroparks Police Water Rescue Team to the scene, along with the Berea and Parma fire departments the evening of May 2nd. The Parma Fire Department said that five of its Southwest Emergency Response Team members assisted in the rescue.
The rescue mission was made difficult due to the rapid currents and difficult river access. Nevertheless, rescuers were not about to let the dog drown. Not only did they save its life, but they also returned it to its grateful owners.
To retrieve the dog from the rock, they used a ladder to make a bridge to the rock where the dog was stranded. They then pushed a rescue basket to the rock where some rescuers were already waiting. They then loaded one rescuer and the dog into the basket and pulled it across the river on the ladder. The dog was thankfully very cooperative and eager to be saved so they were able to pull the dog and the man to safety. After that, it was just a matter of getting the dog up the steep terrain, which they did with the help of a rescue vest.
No doubt the pup was also grateful for the assistance and appeared very appreciative of the help. Certainly, if he could talk, would have a harrowing tale to tell. The H-6 Photo Facebook page shared imagines of the daring rescue along with this post:
