Lily-Rose Depp has addressed her silence over Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial and said she is entitled to her ‘secret thoughts’.

Back in May, 59-year-old Johnny was embroiled in a high-profile lawsuit against his ex-wife.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor sued Amber, 36, over a 2018 article she wrote for the Washington Post about her experiences as a survivor of domestic abuse, which his lawyers said falsely accused him of being an abuser.

In June this year, a jury at Fairfax County Court returned a verdict in his favour and he was awarded 10.3 million dollars (£8.43 million) for damage to his reputation.

During the six-week trial, Lily-Rose was the victim of online harassment from her dad’s fans as they called on the 23-year-old to vocally support him.

Despite this, she remained silent and is still yet to discuss the trial.

“When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal … I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts,” Lily-Rose said in her December 2022/January 2023 Elle cover story.

“I also think that I’m not here to answer for anybody.

“I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends”.

The actress added that she was “really ready” to be defined by her own career.

Amber and Johnny started dating shortly after he split from Vanessa Paradis in 2012. The former couple tied the knot in 2015.

In 2016, Amber filed for divorce, which was finalised a year later in 2017. Two years later, Johnny sued the Aquaman star for defamation. She field a counterclaim in 2020.

The trial exposed their tumultuous relationship, with the jury eventually finding that Amber had defamed Johnny on all three defamation claims.

He was awarded $10million (£8million) in compensatory damages and $5million (£4million) in punitive damage.
